Marine Experience as Captain

Operated sail and motor vessels up to 150 feet in length (300 tons).  Navigated vessels from California to Panama Canal, Rhode Island to the Panama Canal, Florida to the Mediterranean Sea and return, Mediterranean Sea to Canary Islands.  Cruised extensively in the Mediterranean area, Bahama Islands, Mexico and Central America.

Marine Experience - Mechanical

The experience of having owned a marine service company and boatyard in California gave me an excellent working knowledge of gas and diesel marine engines and generators; AC-DC electrical systems; gas, electric and Heli-Arc welding; electronics installation, operation and repair; heavy equipment operation and repair; construction, maintenance and repair of wood, fiberglass, metal and ferro-cement vessels; underwater surveying and repair; design engineering; and fabrication engineering.  I continuously work to remain current with computerized systems commonly used on yachts today.

Recent Experience
1998 to Present: Surveying and consultation work worldwide.
1997 - 1998: Managed the takeover and turnaround of one of Fort Lauderdale's largest marina developments, Lauderdale Marine Center.  As well as running the existing boatyard, I was in charge of the complete refit of the yard property and development of a modern mega-yacht marina.
1995 - 1996: Marine surveying, consulting and yacht deliveries worldwide.
1991 - 1994: Marine surveying, supervision of large refits, and large yacht deliveries in the Mediterranean basin.
1989 - 1990: Relief Captain on 120' research vessel for the Bermuda Biological Station (Bermuda).
1985 - 1988: Marine surveying and refit management, large yacht deliveries in Florida and the Mediterranean.
1981 - 1984: Delivery and yacht Captain for Richard Bertram and Company in Miami, Florida.
1975 - 1980: Owner/Operator of Martin Mobile Marine and Sea West Yacht Yard in Alameda California.
Equipment
  • Portable computer, printer, scanner: able to produce printed survey report immediately, on location.
  • Digital camera for video-surveying or still shots.
  • Audiogauge equipment: ultra sound readings do not require the removal of bottom paint, paint or coatings. Material must only be non-metallic with no blistering.
