2. How long are your survey reports? These are probably the two last questions you should be asking. The two more important questions:
2. What is the scope of their survey. Price shopping for a surveyor only gives you the cheapest survey it doesn't guarantee a quality product. Prices for surveys vary around the country. Most surveyors have a minimum charge and some add mileage after a certain distance. Sometimes the cheaper survey is nothing more than a "Hit and Run" inspection. There are a lot of knowledgeable people in the boating industry and probably some in your area. They may be able to inspect your new boat and find any potential problems and help you make an informed decision. When they are done, can they write a report that will be accepted by the insurance company or lending institution? Dockside Marine Survey is affiliated with SAMS®, The Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors®, and our reports are accepted by all banks and insurance companies. What are some important questions to ask?
When looking for a surveyor, don't just make your decision based on price.. A survey that cost $5.00 per foot and is 30 pages long doesn't guarantee it's what you need. No one says you have to pay the highest price for the survey, just make sure it's what you need, what the insurance companies/lending institutions require, and that you feel comfortable working with the surveyor. We hope you will call Dockside Marine Survey and let us help you make an informed decision for you and your family. |
