Infared Thermography
Thermal imaging is a technique used for detecting and measuring variations in heat energy and transforming that data into visible signals which can be recorded photographically. This technology is used to analyze the seaworthiness of a vessel, or to see alterations to a vessel that are not otherwise visible. It is used to identify problems that are potentially hazardous before it's too late, or to let a prospective buyer of a vessel know if there are any structural, electrical, or mechanical problems that can't be seen before they purchase the vessel. It can find underlying abnormalities which cannot be detected otherwise.

This Infrared picture shows moister intrusion under the bottom paint and a blister in the Gel coat, that could not be seen by the naked eye.
The owner of this boat was having heating trouble with this engine for two years and could not find the problem. After the Thermograph examination (picture at right) the exchanger was remove and taken to a radiator shop. Unit was cleaned and a small hole was found in one of the joints. This was fixed and engine is now working fine.
This is an infared picture of an AC/DC panel that is operating corectly.
