We survey steel, aluminium and fibreglass vessels up to 80' (25 metres)

For the fee we do conduct a rig inspection aloft (if a sail vessel), inspect the ships mechanicals and we operate what we can wherever the vessel is located (in or out of the water). We conduct an external survey of the engine and its compartment to ensure everything complies with American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) and UK yacht construction and safety standards. We check all the plumbing, the AC and DC wiring, and mechanical systems onboard. We do operate everything onboard that is possible, due to its location limitations, etc. It is be best for the vessel to be out of the water for a complete inspection of the hull and the underwater machinery especially on a pre purchase inspection. We closely inspect the struts, props (audible sound test with hammer to detect possible de zincification of the bronze props), the condition of the ship's bonding system inside and out (wiring and connections), and the sacrificial zinc(s) anodes condition. We conduct a complete external mechanical inspection (fuel tanks, engine mounts, signs of leaks on seals, hoses and clamps condition, engine fluid levels, battery fluid levels and visual inspection of the lead plates (if possible if they are not sealed units), If you require a mechanical inspection we may suggest up to 3 area engine mechanics for a complete, independent engine survey. In addition, if the craft is a sailing vessel, we inspect the standing rig aloft (if there is help available for a hoist, we supply the bosun's chair), inspect all the sails and running rigging and comment on these.

Regarding the hull we sound this area with a hammer generally, then we scrape off selected sample areas of the anti fouled, wetted surface area and view the surface and utilise the moisture meter for random sampling of the solid laminate FRP, or cored hull. If the engine is a diesel, and it is possible for the engine to be operated for up to 30 minutes ahead of time, an engine oil and transmission fluid sample may be extracted for an oil analysis (at an extra cost of about 30 Pounds Sterling per oil sump and transmission sump), if requested. A sea trial would also be included in the fee, if requested, and of course a market and replacement value is also included in the report fee (for the region where the vessel is being surveyed).

We possess worldwide professional indemnity insurance, and, in addition, we possess, through our SAMS marine surveyor association, a separate worldwide insurance coverage up to $1,000,000.00 US, full boat yard indemnity contractor's insurance coverage.
